Bob Stagg Selected as 2011 Engineering Fellow

Robert L. (Bob) Stagg, Teledyne Brown Engineering (TBE) retiree, has been selected as TBE’s “Engineering Fellow” for 2011.

Bob Stagg joined Teledyne Brown in 1967 not long after earning a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Auburn University.  He established himself as a technical expert in the areas of automatic test equipment, avionics, circuit design, digital circuit design and analysis, electronic systems design, systems engineering, and systems integration.

In his early career, Stagg served as an electrical engineer, designing logic and interfaces for various data acquisition and test systems such as the Vulnerability and Lethality Test System, Discrete Control Equipment, and the Digital Data Acquisition System.  He also contributed significantly to various studies of data acquisition systems for NASA, Safeguard, and TBE.

Stagg went on to serve as the project engineer for many successful projects, notably the Weapons Effectiveness System Test Environment (WESTE) and Weapons Systems Evaluator (WSE) projects.  The breadth and depth of multidisciplinary experience that he derived from projects like WESTE and WSE proved invaluable and helped TBE win and successfully perform other USAF follow-on programs like the Telemetry Modification Kits and the Phantom Range concept evaluation program.

Later in his career, Stagg’s technical expertise and attention to detail earned him many managerial positions over highly technical programs.  Even though he retired from TBE in 2004, Stagg is still called back to provide technical and managerial support to projects of critical interest in the areas of design, development, fabrication, and testing of aerospace and defense flight and ground support hardware.

During his 40-year career, Stagg contributed to more than 40 technical reports, papers, proposals, and final reports from technical efforts and made numerous presentations at conferences and symposia.  In the community, he was part of the original Civic Center Advisory Board whose members were credited with helping to plan and get the Von Braun Civic Center built in Huntsville.

Past Fellow awardees were also invited to attend the luncheon and joined the newest member for a group photo. They were, from left: Walt Langley, Stagg, John Regner, Jim Cato, Nick Passino, Ray Watson, Hans Hoelzer, Gene Ezell, Earl Presson, Jim Beaupre, Ray Mitchell, Charles Anding, and Gerry Hacker.

Stagg joins a highly select group of 19 other individuals from Teledyne Brown who have been recognized in prior years as Fellows for their lifetime scientific and engineering achievements.  He was formally recognized and inducted as an Engineering Fellow at the annual Awards Luncheon Dec. 9.

The Teledyne Fellows Program was established in 2004 to recognize and honor past or present employees for outstanding lifetime achievements and accomplishments in the fields of engineering and science.  The individuals are considered to be gifted, technical employees whose exceptional contributions to Teledyne helped make the company a success.  The prestigious program maintains TBE’s heritage by creating a “Hall of Fame” of engineers and scientists.
