2008 Veteran's Day Parade

Teledyne Brown Honors Veterans

Teledyne Brown celebrated Veterans Day by hosting a special reception in the Blue Bat Café, paying tribute to the Company’s retired veterans and current active military.

TBE President Rex Geveden and Vice President of Business Development Craig Seabrook made introductory remarks, followed by Geveden paying special tribute to TSI employee Warren Schmitt, who was recognized for being the oldest veteran present.  Schmitt served his country in World War II as a nose gunner on a B-24 bomber (see related Honor Flight story this issue).  Also present and honored with front-row seats for the event were over 35 employees who served in the Korean War, Vietnam War, Desert Storm, and the present conflict.  Veterans Jean Downs and Mike Long also spoke on the subject of what being a veteran meant to them.  The reception concluded with employee Susan Porter singing a moving version of “America the Beautiful.”

Cake and punch were served to all who attended.  A table displaying photos of employees currently serving and a list of those who have recently served was also set up at the event.  The reception, decorations, and displays were created and coordinated by Amy Pietrzak, Eileen Heaton, Patty Anderson, Kathleen Miller, and Darrell Osborn.

The Company also participated in Huntsville’s Annual Veterans Day parade held earlier that day.  Sixteen employees from TBE and TSI, who are active military or retired veterans, rode the Teledyne float as special honorees in the parade.  The float, decorated in a patriotic theme, was built by Bill Laxson and his Facilities crew for the event.
