TBE Manufacturing Team with the towed body mid-section of the AQS 20.

Congratulations Manufacturing Team for Shipping Section of

U.S. Navy's New Minehunting Sonar System!

Teledyne Brown's Manufacturing Team, under contract to Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems, recently shipped the first of nine planned towed body mid-sections of the AQS 20, the U.S. Navy's new advanced Minehunting Sonar System.  This rapidly-deployable system is the most advanced method for detecting underwater mines. The AQS 20 consists of a helicopter that tows an underwater system with five sonars, state-of-the-art imaging sonars and signal processing.  These provide real-time images and classify mines on the ocean bottom.  The midsection, manufactured at TBE’s plant 1, is made up of four precision machined tubes of 6061 Aluminum/Electron Beamed (EB) welded, anodized, primed, and painted. The system is expected to be in operation by 2010.
