TBE Delivers 100th Missile Round Trainer
Manufactured in Huntsville for the U.S. Army

Teledyne Brown Engineering shipped the 100th Patriot Advanced Capability (PAC) – 3 Missile Round Trainer (MRT) to the U.S. Army on May 26.  This inert System, manufactured under contract to Tyonek Manufacturing, was part of a larger order of 13 units to be delivered over a 10-month period.

The MRT System plays a critical role in training soldiers all over the world.  The System is designed to mirror the physical characteristics of a PAC-3 Guided Missile firing but does not contain actual missiles.  The MRTs are used during training to instruct soldiers on the set up and loading of the actual missiles.  The System is intended to assist the Army with its goal to improve the efficiency and safety of the loading process.

TBE began work on this System in 2003. Initially, the Tyonek/Teledyne Brown Team provided the Government with rapid response on the manufacture and delivery of MRTs to be used in Army PAC-3 training and operational units for training purposes as well as significant cost savings.  Soon after, Army engineers recognized the need for a more cost-effective MRT to train ground crews operating the PAC-3 System, and TBE’s engineering staff responded with a simple, producible solution – redesigning the PAC-3 MRT from the ground up.

The PAC-3 MRT is about 18 feet long, 4 foot high and 3.5 foot wide, weighing nearly 4,200 lb. To date, Teledyne has designed, built, manufactured, and delivered over 100 trainers.
