Willey Selected TBE’s Volunteer of the Year

Richard Willey, a systems analyst in the Models, Simulations, and Test Directorate of Defense Systems, was selected to receive TBE’s first Volunteer of the Year award.  A 30-year employee, Willey has been active in volunteerism within the company for many years and has given countless hours as a volunteer in the community.

The award was presented to Willey for his 12 years of dedicated service as a volunteer to Hospice Family Care of Huntsville, which provides support for terminally ill patients and their families, and the Caring House, which is a part of Hospice.  The Caring House provides a safe and caring environment where children who have lost someone close to them can tell their story and learn that there are others who feel the same way they do.

Willey gives many hours to the two organizations – 2 hours per month attending meetings as a member of the Hospice Family Care board, which he has served on for 7 years, and 12 hours a month serving as a meeting facilitator for children and their families who are coping with the death of a loved one.  He also donates his time on weekends, serving as a chaperone and event coordinator for special field trips and seasonal events.

“Richard is a reminder to all of us what it means to ‘Live United,’” noted Anna Spear, assistant United Way campaign coordinator, in making the presentation.  “He is very deserving of this honor.”

The award was given in conjunction with the United Way campaign to recognize employees who volunteer their time to the community and dedicate themselves to a worthy cause that helps others.
